MINAS - Centered around native Brazilian Orlando Haddad (guitar, vocals, percussion), and Patricia King (keyboard,vocals), Minas reflects more than three decades of vocal and instrumental blending. MINAS’ impact on the Philadelphia music and cultural scene has been a constant since 1984, when Orlando & Patricia moved to the city from Rio de Janeiro. They perform annually and always sell out at World Cafe Live. MINAS introduced Philadelphia audiences to Brazilian Carnaval, founded the city’s first samba drum troupe - Philasamba, and have presented educational programs about the music of Brazil in schools to more than half a million children. Orlando taught Brazilian Jazz and Percussion at The University of the Arts for a decade. With 6 CDs to their credit, MINAS is one of the most sought after Brazilian bands in the United States, having performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, all major venues in Philadelphia, and in Portugal, Scotland, and Brazil. MINAS is built upon the duo's multiple talents as vocalists, instrumentalists and composers, with an impressive grasp of the whole range of Brazilian musical idioms. Orlando and Patricia have resided in Delaware County for 3 decades.
